I think the blog proves a lot. Many people think that if your famous your a hero. But many famous people aren’t good people. Many of them get arrested for illegal things. Many people don’t care about heroes anymore. Many famous people of the 1800’s and part of the 1900’s were heroes. Many Presidents like Abe Lincoln were heroes. People look in the wrong places for heroes. They look in magazines and online. They should be looking in there own neighborhood for people who do good things.
My views on heroes in modern time is that they are here and they always will be. Its not the fact that we don’t see them as heroes, but everyone in their own way is. Everyone has something they beleive in and will stand for, thats heroism in its most potent form. Its not some golden being that we all look up too. Its everyday people who we look up to. If we don’t see it in everyday people, then we are selves will think that we can’t be righteous.
I agree to every thing this article is about. Our society shouldnt be looking to wealthy people as heros because they really havent done any heroic act. Heros havent gone anywhere there just hasnt been any one put in an extrodiary situation to act like a hero.
I agree with the points raised in this article. I also think that heroes are unnoticed instead of unavailable. And, these days people think other people are heroes because of their social status. We don’t look up to people because of real hero characteristics, we look up to them if they are pretty, rich, or famous. We need to stop thinking of famous people as heroes, and start paying more attention to people with true hero characteristics like courage, honesty, or faithfulness.
I think most of this article is true. We are looking for heroes in the wrong places. Most of us think that you’re a hero only if you’re famous. This isn’t true to me. A lot of celebrities and famous athletes use drugs. That isn’t heroic at all. I think America’s greatest heroes are our soldiers fighting for us. We should forget about the celebs enough to realize that heroes can be found anywhere in the world and not always on TV or the internet of magazines.
Yo yo yo what’s crackalackin homies?word.
I agree with “Mike Bellah” . We are looking in the wrong “places” and we are looking for the wrong “things” in our heros. Heros should have done something so great, or do something great, that we can honor them each day. Heros should be inspiring. “Mike Bellah” is right when he said “Davy Crocket’s” courage can be imitated but you cant imitate celebrity looks- “moral character as opposed to beauty and wealth”. A real hero shows bravery and courage. That is why I think there are few heros in our world today.
I think that now we see that people are “heroic” by fame and not for the characteristics of a real hero. Heroes are suppose to be brave, honest, and faithful to friends. We have been for a while now classifying heroes as famous people and celebrities, who have wealth and beauty. After a day celebrities frustrate us because we cant try to imitate their looks and fame. Celebrities make us feel ashamed and make us want to work toward how beautiful they are. This applies to girls mostly. When Barbie came out, parents said it spoke the wrong message toward young girls. It said that girls should be skinny and wear make up.
What is a hero, is a hero someone who you look up to or someone who inspires you or both. Some people would say that we have forgotten about the the heros before our time. People all have different ideas of what a hero is. The heros of today out the ordinary people who have the talent to do extraordinary thing each and every day!! I think that most of this is true
I think this essay was a good one because it described the true definition of a hero and it showed what a real hero is. Some people don’t realize what a hero is they might think they know but you never really know until you have one. People look at celebrities and cal them heroes. Sometimes people look up to people that are famous and call them heroes. I like the point he made by saying that “Present day heroes are no longer heroic for things like courage, honesty, or faithfulness to a friend” that states the fact that some celebrities that people consider ‘heroes’ really aren’t.
totally agree with “Carson Harrington” and “Savannah”
I think that in the article “where have all the heroes gone” is the truth about our heroes today. Nobody knows who they are but they are the people right in front of us who we speak to every day. even though people think there is no heroes today and if there are they must be famous they don’t realize the every day heroes like a crossing guard or a teacher. I think that a real hero is one that does good but doesn’t want fame or to be known there the people who don’t need fame either. heroes are among us every day and people don’t even know it.
Canadian Henri Nouwen writes, “real greatness is often hidden, humble, simple and unobtrusive.” I agree with this statement because real greatness is usually hidden and is not easy to find. Keyes concludes that “Moral goodness today is often portrayed as something unheroic, unattractive, deadly dull, excruciating.” I also agree with this one because now people are looking for heros as being rich, famous, attractive which is what i think you should look for in a hero.I agree with Mike Bellahs Site page.
Most of the points being proved in this article are things people should really pay attention too. It shoes that their is not just heroes present day today, but heroes even before our time. Heroes are everywhere. Your family, Your friends, Even your teachers at school can be heroes. Be careful what you look for in a hero because you could be wrong on what you think is a hero. A hero is someone you look up too. Not a best friend or you “favorite” family member or sister. Think twice on what you think a hero actually is.
In 1997 people said that there were less heroes than there were in the past. There actually aren’t less heroes but there are less people looking for real heroes. Instead they look at people that always have attention. Being a good person doesn’t get you recognized like it used to. But money and fame do when you would think that being a good person was more important to be seen as a hero. I agree with every thing on this site.
yo yo yo, i think this article is mostly true. we are looking for heros in the wrong places. and also the wrong things. but just because they are famous or popular doesn’t mean that they are a good hero.
I agree with this article. Most people think that if someone is famous or wealthy then they are our heros. In reality heros shouldn’t HAVE to be famous and/or wealthy, they should be average people who are brave, honest, and loyal to everyone that they meet. To be heroic does not mean to just save lives, it also means that someone can help others out, show people what to do or how to do it. Heros are in front of us each and everyday. Policemen/women, firefighters, teachers, and everyone else. THIS is what a true hero is!
I do agree with the article. Our society focuses too much on the rich and famous. We should support the firemen and police. We should also focus on respecting our parents for what they have done. Some parents are teachers, volunteer firefighters or involved in law enforcement or education. Even if your parents don’t save lives they still help you grow by puting food on the table, a roof over your head and a place to sleep.
I agree with many of the topics that this article discusses. Some people would say that a hero is someone who is brave, trustworthy and someone you can look up to, which is the true definition of a hero. Yet, some would say their hero’s are someone who is famous, pretty, and rich. They just forget about all the bad things they have done and the fact that they really haven’t done anything to become a hero. If we based people on good character, then I think we would be able to find many true hero’s.
i think that a hero is not just some rich guy who can get a lot of things. people shouldn’t be heros because they are rich. a hero should be able to help someone or many people not just themselves.
i agree with carson and nolan
I agree with the sixth paragraph in the article, heroism should not be determined by material wealth, it should be recognized by courage, integrity, and honor
MIke Bellah’s article on heroism is true and decisive. His use of quotes is really helpful in understanding the attributes we have missed with heroes. My favorite statement of Bellah’s is that heroes can be fictional characters as well as people. The statistics that in the 60’s almost nobody picked the first astronauts in the most admirable lists shocked me. Mike Bellah’s article hits the head on the nail and reallly shows us what or who we have forgotten about.
